Not if you were the last club on earth: Golden Gate, Berlin
Like so many underground clubs in Berlin, Golden Gate is hard to find. Forget the neon sign pointing to the entrance. In fact, forget any sign at all.

Located underneath the tracks near the Jannowitzbrücke train station, pissing distance away from the river Spree, Golden Gate offers a non-pretentious, anything goes, all-night-long-and-into-the-next-week party.
And just remember: if you can't find the door, just listen for the bass: thick, grimey, thumping, crunky shit, seeping from the blacked-out windows of a dumpy, graffiti-covered two story building, like maggots oozing from a road-side rabbit. Yeah, this place is that dirty. And, like so many underground clubs in Berlin, that's what makes it beautiful.
Opened in the winter of 2005 under the guise of an art gallery with background music, Golden Gate has seen mostly local Berlin DJs within it's walls, including somewhat bigger names like Sven Dohse, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, and Marcus Carp. And, as Berlin nightlife really doesn't get started before 2am, don't even think about showing up much earlier than that. The bar staff are actually friendly, the drinks are affordable, and the coat-check girl may even shoot you a smile if she's having a good night.

Talent: The über-cool Berlin boys in too-tight acid-washed 80s jeans, retro raybans and lacoste shirts show up around 6am with their girl counterparts, decked out in vintage print dresses, big belts and heels, and pixie/bowl/cutie-pie hair cuts. The rest of the folks who frequent Golden Gate don't spend so much time on their appearance. Instead, these artists, DJs, students, or unemployed Berlin idlers tie their dreds back, throw on a pair of jeans and sneaks and a favorite t-shirt, and get ready to sweat.
Toilets: Located upstairs, along with a most-likely broken cigarette machine, there are two larger stalls "for the ladies," and one piss trough and another stall around the corner "for the bros." Nobody really cares who goes where, but expect a bang on the door if you're taking too long with the dealer. Remember to wash your hands. Hopefully there's soap.
Sounds: The visuals may be a bit lacking, but the music usually makes up for it. It's Berlin, so expect mainly minimal, techno, and breakbeats, spun from a modest set-up with a very decent soundsystem.
Goodies: Again, it's Berlin, it's electro, it's underground, try the toilets.
Icebreaker: Hows the weather out there?
Jawbreaker: No idea - I've been in here for two days!
