Say What?!
The Sick Girls hail from Berlin, but you won’t find them playing house or techno. They’re one of the few acts in the city representing the current wave of grime/Baltimore/bass sounds. The girls started out organising and booking parties for many years for two of Berlin’s most famous clubs Tresor & WMF, and one night back in 2004 decided to play together for fun, instantly discovering that they shared the same, quite unusual taste of music considering their “oh-so techno” surroundings. They have a real knack for mashing up, re-editing & remixing whatever track or whatever style in whatever order they feel. If you have a good rummage through their record box you’ll find all sorts of grime, baile funk, Baltimore, hip-hop, crunk, dancehall, dubstep, electro and every other edgy genre in between from around the globe.
Check out their Bodytonic Podcast right here for a taster: Sick Girls
and another rockin mix here: Blank A Brost
They'll be throttling the Twisted Pepper dancefloor with a 3hr party mash-up, while Nic James bobs n weaves beforehand.
BREAKOLOGY & BREAKDOWN:
Down in the Basement, breaks cat Meat Katie makes a welcome return to Breakology almost 2 years on. Meat Katie has long been a fixture on the breakbeat scene as both a DJ and producer, in the last few years his unique brand of tech-funk that takes influence from tech & tribal house, techno & electro, but with his trademark breakbeat feel, has really kicked off, with both house + breaks djs sighting him as one of the most consistent players out there. His genre defying sound is also reflected in his DJ sets, which have seen him supporting the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Death In Vegas, Ken Ishii & the Dubpistols.
He has toured Australia with The Boutique, Two Tribes & Gatecrasher, done a number of US/Canadian tours and played everywhere from Argentina to Hungary to Scotland to China.
On the recording front Mark is signed to Lot 49 where he is currently working on his new (4th) artist album. On top of this he has embarked on a collaborative 12? series for the Kingsize label with guest so far including Elite Force (no.1) and Lee Coombs (no.2). Both releases so far have been getting Radio 1 airplay from Pete Tong and future singles include collaborations with Christian J and Kathy brown and Roland Clark! Mark continues with collaborative releases for a number of other quality labels including TCR (”JuJu” with Elite Force) & Bedrock (”I Feel it” with Dark Globe)
