ANA GOG
Ana Gog once again return to the Mezz of the Twisted Pepper to continue their forthnightly residency.
ANA GOG
Ana Gog are a Dublin-based collective of musicians who have in the last twelve months been gathering a substantial and devoted following in Ireland. Formed in 2006 when its members were studying music at university, the group is composed of individuals hailing from a rich diversity of musical backgrounds, exploration and experimentation being the cornerstone of is existence from the very beginning. Ana Gog’s sound is greater than the sum of its parts; this is a music that refuses to conform to genre and which has never failed to enrapture its audience. The band’s live performances, which can include anything from five to twelve musicians, have become a benchmark for what music can and should do to its listener, ranging from moments of wild frenzy to a searing quietness. Their musical understanding and versatility has not gone without notice, with the group being dubbed as a “future sound” of Irish music in the Times.
Ana Gog’s rise to prominence has been like a subtle revolution; their tendency to forego the more institutional musical venue in favour of places better suited to their music led to a series of “guerrilla gigs”, staged in warehouses and other non-music-specific venues around Dublin. Over the last year the band has found themselves a loyal following, as well as having built around themselves a small movement of artists from other disciplines who have contributed to the visual and spatial element of the live show. Ana Gog gigs have become synonymous with packed venues and extraordinarily involved audiences – and the growth of their fan base shows no signs of stopping. The group have of late made some professional studio recordings of their work and are hoping to release their debut album, “Ode to the Night”, in Summer 2010 to coincide with a promotional tour. There is no doubt but that Ana Gog will be a much talked about group in times to come.
