Donnacha Costello Mix to Download
Donnacha Costello is a is a techno and minimal artist based in right here in Dublin. He started writing music in 1989 and discovered minimal electronic music in 1996, becoming well known and respected in the domestic scene. Having completed his philosophy degree, Costello engaged himself in university studies in music and was introduced to Steve Reich, John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
In 2000 he began to release 12" singles on his own label Minimise and was signed by Force Inc. for his first album. Growing Up In Public utilizes new digital production and synthesis methods, sampling and dub techniques. This debut album displays a great degree of imagination and experimentation.
Donnacha Costello produces some of the sweetest morning techno-trance you'll ever hear. His epic Colors series on his own label Minimise, ten records recorded live on analog gear without a computer, is a milestone in the history of techno.
The Colors sound is pure hypnosis, the sound of real trance. Donnacha last year revamped his set-up, bought a computer, and started making music as infectious and clever as his previous music was deep. His massive hit "That's Great, Start Over" was played out by Luciano and Richie Hawtin in their almost every one of their sets last year, and was one of the biggest minimal tracks of the year.

As with many people during the late eighties I was bitten pretty hard by the Acid House bug and I dived head first into the warehouse scene.
I was already DJing in and around London playing ska and reggae, so I got some 1200s and learnt how to mix. I had left school intending to become an actor and worked pretty steadily doing small parts in film & tv until the lure of the dancefloor became far too great and I put that on hold to open a record shop, Mighty Atom, in Windsor, Berkshire. It didn't reach the giddy heights we hoped but it did expand our record collections and resulted in Mighty Atom Recordings, for which I have recorded under many guises, both under my own name and as Lovejuice, Strobefunk (with Sam Gillett), Elektric Suedehead (withSid Burr) and Midnight Steppers (with Alex Martin).
The shop also led me to Reading's infamous Checkpoint Charlie night where I eventually became resident alongside the excellent Mat Carter.
Over the past year I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Bulgarian Housemeister KiNK,releasing two titles, 'Inside Out' and 'Full Flight', on Amsterdam's fine Rush Hour imprint.
When I'm not in the studio you might find me searching out obscure and unnecessary physical exercises and then attempting to execute them in the local park.
I've also just published a book with my brother, photographer Gavin Watson, called Raving '89. It's a collection of photographs and tales from 1989 taken at various warehouse raves and outdoor parties and will be out August 30th published by the lovely chaps over at DJHistory. Check it out, you might even see yourself in it if you ever frequented Slough Centre around that time.
GIRLS NAMES
Formed in January 2009 with their first gig booked before even playing together, Belfast 's Girls Names unabashedly hark back to the early/mid eighties shadow world of Beat Happening, Black Tambourine, Felt, C86 and the Sound of Young Scotland. In their short existence they have quickly honed their craft in creating their own self-styled “disposable noise pop”, masking subdued bittersweet vocals and melodic hooks with reverb drenched guitars and Mary Chain primal drums.
Having sold out of their debut home taped demos on Cass/Flick (Belfast) last summer and after a string of support slots with the likes of Sic Alps, Wavves, Times New Viking, Lovvers and Gary War, Girls Names are set for their first release 'proper', with a 12" EP on Brooklyn’s much talked about Captured Tracks label and a full UK tour with label buddies, La La Vasquez in the spring.
Expect more releases in the upcoming months through Cass/Flick and Tough Love Records ( London ) and a debut album in the offing before the year is out.
LA LA VASQUEZ

"Get on the party train with La La Vasquez. After playing their first show at Upset The Rhythm's Yes Way last year they've run riot in in sweaty rooms up [and sometimes down] the UK matching laid-back vocal harmonies with wicked shouts. Now they're moving on from their savage days with a melodic set of fuzzy jams that are a must hear in 2010. Au Pairs, Young Marble Giants, Bikini Kill, K Records... whatever, they love that stuff but they're on their own track. Don't miss their 7" released on Captured Tracks this month, "Don't Rush Me" on the Paradise Vendors/ Italian Beach Babes Compilation and their show at the NQ Trof. Going to be 3 Parts girl, 2 Parts beer, 1 Part Cider, all rulin'."
LOGIKPARTY
Logikparty's sound is abrasive, atonal, austere and agitated. They were saved from a life of crime and vice in the year 2009 by Scandinavian pagans and impetuously became infamous practitioners of occult rituals.......
Logikparty thinks - therefore Logikparty am......
