Liverpool title favourites? Pundits, Punters differ

I noticed the Guardian writers yesterday tip Liverpool as 2009/2010 Champions (Chelsea 2nd, United 3rd) and see today that Rob Kelly in The Telegraph has done the exact same

This is almost to be expected by now, almost all football writers are secret Liverpool fans and frequently tip them for success but they're at serious odds with the people who are putting real money on the line who would reverse that top 3. I can see one justification for downplaying United's chances considering how dependent we have been on Ronaldo but Liverpool's squad is notably inferior to ours and it takes some leap of faith to leapfrog them over not only us but a rejuvenated Chelsea too, particularly when they're down one of their vital central midfielders already and likely to lose the other one.

I'd expect some of the less realistic Liverpool fans to agree with the Telegraph and Guardian and I'd also expect United fans to disagree but what of the fans of other teams - who has it right, pundits or punters?

As a liverpool fan, thats bullshit in my eyes. Losing alonso will hurt us far more than you losing ronaldo. We don't have the depth of squad to warrant the favourites tag. We could easliy get a few injuries and end up scrapping for 3rd or 4th with Arsenal. If Aquallini is a success though, then you never know. Still would be sticking my money on United though....

It really depends on who Chelsea buy, they have to freshen up their squad; although I do think that chap Zhirkov is going to be a great buy. Both Utd and Liverpool have weaker squads now than last season but it's Liverpool who will get hurt by injuries more than Utd and it's that depth that is really needed to win the league these days: having a good first eleven as Liverpool undoubtedly do is just not enough any more.

Liverpool shouldn`t be favourites after losing Alonso, but Frank, your blinkers are once again mind boggling, all journalists are secret liverpool fans, come on to fuck.

Well, Eoin how do you explain the fact that realistic 'pool fans like yourself and chester don't think Liverpool should be favourites while supposed "experts" like these journos are getting carried away with enthusiasm for Liverpool's prospects unless they're secret Liverpool fans (or at the least secret ABUs)

I cant wait until the league kicks off - imagine the shite coming from him then!

maybe those journalists are moles that SAF planted to mess with rafas mind

I [agree/disagree] with your assessment because you [praised/insulted] a [team/person] that I [support/loathe]. Furthermore, I [admire/ridicule] your writing based on the previous statement, and not on the merit of what was actually written.
[Insert final attempt to be witty here]

that was one of the replies to that first article
