15 ways to clear a dancefloor (and still feel good about it in the morning)

danny wang wrote a great article on the Self-Titled site - despite the title, there's some deadly records in the list.
15 ways to clear a dancefloor (and still feel good about it in the morning)

what are your greatest dancefloor-emptying moments?
i remember playing Grace Jones - "i've seen that face before" one night and it emptied the place - lil dave was the only person left dancing, bless him.

Leffe-induced sharts - NAP.

i wouldnt say he emptied the dancefloor, but i remember at Berghain a few years ago Rolando was playing, on for an hour before Audion and about 20 mins into set - he was stuggling already - he played Knights of the...

crowd were into it for about half the tune , then realised i guess this fella was playing his trump card and too early and lost interest . his set petered out spectacularly after that . meant when audion came on , he destroyed the place. it might be a madhouse that place, but you can't con the crowd !

If you playing really long set (like 10 hours set), you better play tunes to clear the floor,

I suppose it's happened to all of us at some point in our DJ lives but I find it isn't the track per se that will clear the floor but the quality of the pressing or nowadays the size of the bit rate. Danny points this out in the first of his 15 choices that sound quality can be a factor.

When I was djing at the old Discotonic a few years ago, warming up for Gerry Molumby I cleared the floor with what I thought was the opposite of a floor-clearer: Reel People's The Rain. It worked out ok in the end as I really wanted to play The Pointer Sisters' Chainey Do but wouldn't have dared play it to a full dancefloor, but it worked fine on an empty one and ended up filling back up again

Cleared the floor at a houseparty years and years ago with 'Remember Me' by the Blueboy.

Seemed like a very harsh response to me redface
