Laurent Garnier - paddys eve - tripod

after his appearance at deaf 08 - do not know if I would go, have seen him few times, does be varied which is good, but that deaf show to me was let down.

i love the man and a few poor sets wont see me change my mind , but i wont be going to this. i just think as a DJ he's not playing out so much and tends to play certain records because of that and its a bit predictable. i'd rather cling onto the memories i have of him being the best of the best than risk being disappointed . maybe he's going through a blip. I think it must be really really hard to be over 40, and totally on top of your game as a a dj in terms of new music, taking risks, etc etc .

last time i saw him rock it was EP05, and Electic Chair that winter. every time since, i've known or predicted 25-50% of his set. that can't be good...

still, a legend and if you've only seen him 1-2 times, you'll have fun.

Exactly, and I think people were completely over the top in their criticism of his set taht night at DEAF.

Yes it wasn't great, but the way some people were going on you'd swear he'd stood up there and played Barbie Girl on repeat for 2 hours.

I'll still remember that set in the red box in 03, he absolutely blew me away that night. EP05 was amazing as well.

Some of us may have been overly harsh about him at DEAF. And I wasn't maybe in the place to say he was any good or not as I was battered on really strong mdma and it was still so painful I walked out the door after 20mins wink

Tripod just ain't the venue to see a dj be at the top of their game imo. You never hear crazy reports about gigs there anymore, not like, say, Larry in the old redbox in 03.

Tripod is brutal for DJ shows. it just doesnt work , on loads of levels. great for live gigs, but i'll never go and see another dj gig there again. Scruff is playing there in January and thats a waste too .

the BF is perfect venue for both gigs imo. if both were on there, so would I

I think new contenders come and go but the one man who's remained a constant in techno is Laurent Garnier. I think it's fair to say his live show has consumed a lot of his time with touring and production, and I think the quality of his DJ sets have slipped a bit as a result. But he is a great, great DJ, absolutely no question about it, his schedule has slowed down a bit too so that might account for the lull, he's one of those DJ's who has the rare ability to play very long sets (insert 4-6 hour joke here), and entertain a wide variety of people with quality underground music. There isn't many DJ's you can say that about in electronic music.

I was at this show last year and I thought it was all a bit predictable, but I share the lads assessments too, Tripod is a terrible venue for a DJ gig, but a great live music gig. Unfortunately, with a Garnier live show and DJ set, it's hard to imagine any other venue apart from Tripod being able to accomodate it. Button Factory is great though, completely agree.

fully agreed, I had my last night out in there for a dj - Luciano in october 2007. fo real, was good and all, just not same.

on side note - my best experience of seeing Mr.G was a b2b set with marky in space ibiza few summers ago, that was sweet, such an eclectic set, so suppose was thinking at that deaf show, it be something similar.
