John Digweed - Tripod

Have to say - this gig was absolutely quality, a full 4 hour set - he had the crowd in the palm of his hand from 11:30pm.

Lets' hope more DJ's follow and start doing longer sets, instead of the usualpoxy 2 hours.

Digweed is very much famous for his "epic" sets, so folks into him will check him out if he's playing long sets, similar with Larry G, Mr Ccruff... Many djs aren't as well known so folk won't think to head in early, so could be a waste putting them on. It's shit but so be it.

That's got nothing to do with "epic" sets, that's just sheer popularity. Digweed is a big name so you're better off gettin in early instead of spending half the night cueing to get in or to hang your coat.

Also are there any DJs better at doing non-epic sets vs epic ones?

Sorry, what i meant to say was some aren't as well known for doing longer sets. they don't have a name for them as such.

For sure this question has been asked many times I guess but is there any way you can start gig much earlier and let people to come early at same time?? As its finish at 3AM, starting nights at 9PM (main DJ start 11-12PM) is the only way that Irish clubs to have same experience as other countries.

How about drink promos and half/free door tax before 10PM? Promoters/owner can get that cash back with sales at bar maybe??

I never understand why, even you know its finish at 3AM still people never turn up clubs until 1AM

Jaysus not this again!

No doubt people will come on and say "Na, it's just Irish mentality" to not go in to a club til 12.30-1am or so and then complain about short DJ sets compared to other countries. You can't have it both ways.
The arguement that no big act wants to play to a room that is half full at 10.30 is bull shit. Just call it an occupational hazard, they get payed enough.

Because of our licensing laws and new found recession it's about time people change their attitudes to clubs. Agree with Shinya re cheaper door tax etc to get customers in early.

While missing Irish clubs and atmosphere badly, I am taking advantages being here in Tokyo, to go to see Kerry Chandler from 1AM -5AM then move to another club for Timmy Regisford from 5AM-10AM Saturday next week. biggrin biggrin

gonna be a marathon night.

Tokyo, eh? - visited any of those sex hotels I've heard so much of yet? !!

Have to agree with the promos etc....to get people in earlier, the Digweed set opened my eyes on Friday - it really felt like it was a proper night because you got into the flow of the set.

Let's hope Tripod start doing more nights like it. Loco Dice coming up next.

What was the club like itself? cues for entrance, bar, toilets etc. and ratio of scumbags
