RIP CDJ 1000s

Pioneer apparently planning to halt manufacturing of CDJ 1000s.

Wont be long till all CD decks are gone....

CD Decks themselves , as in using CD's yeah. but the orginal 'CDJ1000 deck ' ie its shape and feel, i think that will have a place for a few years

I've been waiting for them to design this for 2-3 years now , was the final step in a way, coz i love using the CDJ1000, just hate pressing cds and printing covers . only pisser now is coming up with the benjamins for the fuckers for the TP and BS

anyone want 3-5 pairs of CDJ1000's ? top nick, only needed to be repaired about 15 times each, still in box, unwanted Xmas present etc etc ....

I don't think they had any choice given that the 900 and 2000 models have been slow to take off. Being prohibitively expensive has certainly put people off the notion of upgrading and entering into the CDJ arena for the first time.

With a the CDJ1000MK3 still on the market it was always going to canabilise sales of the newer models if there was a cheaper and similar alternative option available.

My own feeling is these upgrades are too little, too late and too expensive. The money you would shell out on a pair of 2000's would set you up with a good spec Mac Book Pro, controller, sound card and a couple of decent programs.

Why would you bother using them (unless you are sponsored by Pioneer)? Not many clubs if any that I am aware of stock them. There are cheaper controllers that offer an almost identical experience and they are massive in size!

I really loved my CDJ's and it hurt me to part with them but when the realisation hit me that I could just do everything from my Mac better, cheaper and with less burning/labelling involved it didn't take me long to make the jump.

I think the CDJs (900/1000/2000) will be around in clubs a good while longer than people think. They are an excellent control surface for DJing with, even for software DJing using time-coded CDs. Being able to connect your laptop via USB to the new ones gets rid of the need to burn anything too, which is my main gripe with using CDJs in the first place.

That said, I would be very hesitant to buy myself a set of the new ones for personal use at home. So what are the best hardware controllers for software DJing these days?

I bought the vestax VCM 100, which has a built-in soundcard , so its a case of plug in and play. Its one of the default controllers for Traktor so you don't have to map anything.

Would you be able to use the vestax VCM 100 with Serato(1.9.2)?
