Best basic drum machine or sampler???

Looking to get something new to make beats live and in studio, wondering what the best way to go is on a budget?

Thinking of either getting some midi control pads to work through a computer, or get a basic drum machine, or get a cheapish sampler with good drum sounds built in, any recommendations?

MFB522 drumcomputer, its an 808 clone and a pretty good one too, or so people say, have one myself, piss easy to use, cost about 250 quid

korg electribe er-1 is a basic and cheap drum computer

korg electribe esx is a cool sampler with 909 style step sequening. easy to use and instant fun.

both can be got pretty cheap second hand on adverts.ie and such sites. check out youtube for vids

Cheers, know anything about the akia xr 20?

If your looking for a good sampler on a budget go for Akai S-900 or S950, ye can use a midi pad bank then to trigger the samplesa after you have cut them. there nice aswell cause ye can choose your sample rate when you bouncing them in, the 950 also has time strech function which is nice for extending small hit.

i got an mpc 2000xl if you lookin

how much for the mpc out of interest?

I'd go for something like the MPC or a software solution over an 808 or 909 clone. Those old sounds are great, don't get me wrong, but you're really limiting yourself to something that's been done and done and done again for the last 30 years. There's far more scope for experimentation when you can pick and choose your samples and edit them too, plus you can pick up a bunch of 808/909/DMX/CR78 samples and throw them in should you feel the need :) (do I hear an analog/digital debate coming...?)

300 i guesss
