Just bought a rather small looking watermelon and it had zero taste what so ever. Why do we always get crappy fruit here, surely in this day and age there are ways of transporting good stuff from over seas?
Fruit in Ireland?
^ ^ ^ It depends where you bought it from I find espec with watermelon, where did you buy your one ? I have found if got in middle eastern / asian store they are fine.
Dunnes unfortunately! Yeah I've seen some proper sized ones in the Asian / Arabic stores around town
I love the fruit from Asia Market, much better than the supermarket dross. Local greengrocer stuff is usually miles better too.
More than likely that the watermelon is out of season. Check out eattheseasons.co.uk it will give you an acurate idea of what's good to eat now. The problem with eating stuff that's out of season is that that fruit or veg is grown in forgein climates where it is not gron to ripeness but then shipped in zero oxegen enviroments under-ripe, when it gets here it is blasted in high-oxegen rooms to ripen unnaturally (out of the sun too) and then put on the shelves where it last for about a day and then goes to shite. There is also an ethical question of buying fruit and veg as they are shipped by plane and thus have a carbon footprint by the time you eat it.
