martinez, rodgers, lambert all real good young managers but all have no european football experience, so they have to be overlooked. Rafa delivered lfc champions league footy , and if you bother to look up the financial rapists who where in charge of lfc for most of rafas time there, you will see that what he did was amazing. Having to sell to buy, could only buy players from other clubs that owed lfc monies , Madness. We then fnished second with highest number of league points not to win league. He was onto something and with normal backing and investment by decent owners, well then who knows what he could do ?
Dalglish gone
Martinez may well go on to be a great manager but he wouldn't have been considered a couple of months ago and he's not the right man for the job now. If he gets it, it's another case of flavour of the month syndrome just like Hodgson after Fulham came back to beat Juve.
Without wanting to go into all the Rafa shit again (how many times have I said that!), his league win record is better than any other Liverpool manager; he got us into the knockout stages of the CL five seasons out of six and we were the top ranked club in Europe under his management. He signed some shite but rather than persist with them he moved them on quickly when it became apparent they weren't good enough (Josemi, Morientes, Nunez, Keane, Kromkamp, Voronin). He also signed plenty of lesser known players for under 10 million who have gone on to show their worth (Garcia, Alonso, Sissoko, Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Arbeloa, Lucas, Crouch, Kuyt, Benayoun, Insua etc).
He still lives in Liverpool, he's unemployed, the spine of the team is still made up of his players and his track record is better than a lot of the other names bandied about. If he's not even considered for the job then there is something seriously wrong.
He could have been given another season but you cant argue with the facts - we were and are muck and he was never the man to do the job. Sure he only got it cause the fans pushed and pushed - there's no way FSG Red Sox would have given it to him otherwise. mnow they can go out and get someone (relatively) young for the long haul.
Now bring me Rafa/AVB/Jurgen Klopp and I will be happy with any of those three.
Or Pep. Fabio Capello is free too now that I think of it. Where is Hiddink ?
Hiddink is getting something like 20m a year from some despicable human rights abuser in Dagestan along with Samuel Eto'o and the mighty Chris Samba.
Martinez is just another Hodgson in my opinion. Hasn't been tested yet. Rafa let Masherano and Alonso go, ruined Liverpool by doing that and buying no replacements.

Hodgson sold Mascherano.
Alonso wanted to go back to Spain and Benitez was willing to let him. Garreth Barry was meant to be his replacement but the transfer money disappeared, and he's gone on to play almost every game this season in a title winning side.
I reckon with the right backing AVB would do a good job. Klopp will undoubtedly get a shot at one of the big clubs soon.
Agree with the sentiments towards Martinez above. Would be madness.

I think AVB is the best of the candidates tbh.
He was treated very shabbily by the likes of Lampard and Terry and I have no doubt that if he had been given free reign and the full backing of Abramovich he would have been successful.
There's no big egos at Liverpool and if the board appoint him, I think they'll back him in whatever he needs to do.
He's young, ambitious and seems to have a good footballing brain.
