The life and times of Oakey

Paul Oakenfold gracefully authorises his own biograhy

Millionare Trance hero Paul Oakenfold's biography will be hitting bookshelves all over very soon. Written by Richard Norris, it charts how the one time London soul boy went on a holiday to Ibiza, with his pals Nicky Holloway, Trevor Fung & Danny Rampling, necked a few yippers, danced to Ibiza original Alfredo and changed the world forever.

A bold claim but after the above mentioned chemical fuelled experiences on the white isle they started up their individual clubnights when they got home, bringing house music with them, kicking off the acid house explosion that introduced thousands of UK kids to house music and 20 years later is a multi-billion €£$ industry with its tentacles all over the mainstream.

From his early beginnings with club nights like Future and Spectrum, he went on to produce the Happy Mondays, U2, Simply Red, New Order, the Cure, Massive Attack, M People, Arrested Development, the Shamen, the Stone Roses, and even Snoop Doggy Dogg. He was also the UK agent for The Beastie Boys and Run D.M.C, started Perfecto - one fo the most succesful dance labels of all time, has toured the world 50 times over as a DJ (including touring with U2), can claim the most requested BBC Essential Mix ever and probably what he is best known for these days, wrote the theme tune to Big Brother.

Whatever you may think of Oakey in his current floppy fringed trance guru guise, the very fact that this website exists to host this article can be traced back to that lads holiday in 1987.

He's the only person or thing that suffered from the Millenium Bug. But some great contributions up until then.

I saw him a couple of times back around the era of homelands Ireland and thought he was amazing! lol Saw him in the burning man two years ago and he was playing the exact same tunes he had been when I first saw him. Nostalgic but kinda pathetic
