Three years after their breakthrough album, Night on Fire, the Louisville natives return with an album that sees them leaning very much towards the rock side of the dance/rock hybrid that they were instrumental in launching.
After a gruelling 17 month tour following the release of Night on Fire, the boys have clearly taken their time with this album, getting back to the basics of quality songwriting and good old fashioned live drum beats. Says guitarist Mark Palgy, “we didn’t want to make Night on Fire 2, obviously we didn’t want our fans to be let down by a huge departure – we wanted two or three dance/clubby songs but we also wanted bigger drums, bigger guitars and more rock ‘n roll.” Fans of the then seminal sound that was the 2002 Le Funk EP might be a little disappointed at the new direction the band have taken, but perhaps this is just a bend in the road rather than an entirely new path. As vocalist and guitarist Craig Pfunder reassures, “we grew up as rock ‘n roll kids, we all discovered dance music at a certain time and neither genre has grown old to us.” Bring on the Comets is set for release on August 28th.
