Bebo and iTunes to join forces

Bebo and Apple have made friends in order to allow users to purchase songs directly through Bebo

Internet Giants iTunes and Bebo have announced today a new deal which will brainwash supply the 9 million or so British and Irish users with songs related to the bands they look at.

There are currently around 500,000 bands signed up to Bebo, and this new collaboration will let them sell their wares directly on their profile pages, without the user having to leave the page. Obviously social networking is a huge business on the internet at the minute, but this is one of the first attempts to directly sell a product using the user base of such a site, and it will be something of a coup for Apple, given the large amount of younger users, who are iTunes biggest customers.

Indeed such sites have regularly been the target of litigation thanks to the freedom they give fans to upload music and videos from artists. Last November, Universal Music Group, the world's largest music company, sued MySpace for copyright infringement after finding thousands of its artists' songs and videos on the site.

San Francisco based Bebo will promote the new service by rewarding users with a free song from a different artist every week on "Free Single Saturday."
