MIA unveils new album, causes epilepsy
M.I.A. (the English one) releases details of her new album with a nauseating relaunch of her website
Beware those with an aversion to bright flashing images, M.I.A. has just re-launched her website with a rather...distinct style. Seriously, as if the London Olympics video wasn't bad enough, this would give blind people seizures.
To save the pain of actually trying to navigate the website though, we thought we'd be kind enough to offer up the details of her new album, 'Kala', named after her mother.
The track listing will be as follows:
- Bamboo Banga
- Bird Flu
- Boyz
- Jimmy
- Hussel (featuring Afrikan Boy)
- Mango Pickle Down River (with The Wilcannia Mob)
- 20 Dollar
- World Town
- The Turn
- XR2
- Paper Planes
- Come Around (featuring Timbaland)
Bird Flu and XR2 have been around for a while now, and Boyz is due to be the next single. The album features a whole load of en-vogue producers such as Switch, Timbaland and Diplo, and features a blend of Baltimore, Hip Hop and traditional African and Indian instrumentation.
In an interview with Fact Magazine, 31 year old Maya says that she worked on this album “A lot more than ‘Arular’…I think that’s also why lyrically I let it go anywhere, because my head was always more in the production this time. I think this album is a lot more contained than ‘Arular'. Before I was making music every day at home. Whereas with ‘Kala’ I had ideas but went and recruited people to do it. I employed drummers rather than do it myself on a 505...I’m proud that I made it room in India with cockroaches and stuff”
Kala will be released in the UK on August 20th, and in Japan on August 8th.
