A Brief Introduction to...Stevie G
**He is…**Cork based Hip/Hop/Soul/R&B DJ who hosts Red Drive, Music Overload and Black on Red on Cork’s Red FM. Made his name in the nineties in club nights like the infamous Sweat in Sir Henry’s, Mo Disco and Jam in the Savoy. Once had Monsieur Garnier shaking a hoof to the Clash in the Back Bar in Sir Henry’s! Owns more than 10,000 records and is currently in the process of digitizing them all! Jaysus! **He will mostly be playing…**Hip/Hop/soul/funk/reggae and maybe some other stuff that will be a surprise! **In his own words…** **What’s been going on for Stevie G this year?** I’ve been very busy and have finally opened by own venue in Cork with two others, The Pavilion, which is going really well **If you were writing your own review what would you say about yourself?** He was a bit all over the place and tried too much! **Tell us a bit about your best gig to date and why was it the best?** So many to mention but I particularly enjoyed my Body and Soul session at the Picnic last year. It was a Sunday evening in a unique setting, and the music made sense to most. When you get a couple of thousand people “getting” soul, hip-hop and reggae, it’s a good feeling. Back in the early 90’s I would have been delighted with 5 people! **What piece of new fangled technology has really made a difference to your job in the last few years?** I’ve been on a 3 year project converting my vast vinyl collection for Serato purposes and will be making the jump shortly, for someone who plays a big variety it is handy, though I’m still not planning on using it exclusively. **What can we look forward to from Stevie G at the Electric Picnic?!** I usually decide at the moment but it may be a bit more uptempo than usual, though I will do my best to get as many styles in during my set. I’m in the company at the Bodytonic arena of many music people that I have a lot of respect for, so this should inspire me aswell. **What are you looking forward to most about the picnic?!** Music in amazing surroundings and archaic licensing laws a distant memory for the weekend. **Not many people know that I...** once had to leave Richie Hawtin in my living room in my apartment alone drinking tea, while myself and his good mate Jon Aquaviva went down to my bedroom to assemble a disco and soul set. Aquaviva used to play those sets in Cork at our Mor Disco night but couldn't bring his records as he was touring techno and house, so he used to borrow my tunes. Hawtin, who was simply here as his friend, is held in high regard by many techno people but I was more worried that he would fall asleep with the boredom as we were diggin in the crates for hours! **Stevie’s thought for the day is...**let’s get out earlier and let’s not leave it to the government to decide when we can party! **Stevie’s word of the day is...**Haboglabotribin! Google it if ya don’t know! **Stevie’s idea of a good night out is...**any of my nights off at the Picnic should be fun. When not out and when not working, which I thankfully still love, it would be chilling with my wife and maybe going for dinner.

If you were writing your own review what would you say about yourself?
He was a bit all over the place and tried too much!
Tell us a bit about your best gig to date and why was it the best?
So many to mention but I particularly enjoyed my Body and Soul session at the Picnic last year. It was a Sunday evening in a unique setting, and the music made sense to most. When you get a couple of thousand people “getting” soul, hip-hop and reggae, it’s a good feeling. Back in the early 90’s I would have been delighted with 5 people!
What piece of new fangled technology has really made a difference to your job in the last few years?
I’ve been on a 3 year project converting my vast vinyl collection for Serato purposes and will be making the jump shortly, for someone who plays a big variety it is handy, though I’m still not planning on using it exclusively.
What can we look forward to from Stevie G at the Electric Picnic?!
I usually decide at the moment but it may be a bit more uptempo than usual, though I will do my best to get as many styles in during my set. I’m in the company at the Bodytonic arena of many music people that I have a lot of respect for, so this should inspire me aswell.
What are you looking forward to most about the picnic?!
Music in amazing surroundings and archaic licensing laws a distant memory for the weekend.
Not many people know that I... once had to leave Richie Hawtin in my living room in my apartment alone drinking tea, while myself and his good mate Jon Aquaviva went down to my bedroom to assemble a disco and soul set.
Stevie’s thought for the day is...let’s get out earlier and let’s not leave it to the government to decide when we can party!
Stevie’s word of the day is...Haboglabotribin! Google it if ya don’t know!
Stevie’s idea of a good night out is...any of my nights off at the Picnic should be fun. When not out and when not working, which I thankfully still love, it would be chilling with my wife and maybe going for dinner.
