The Source Returns

In an era where the internet slowly begins to overtake the magazine world for reader’s attention, it seems former bankrupted hip-hop magazine “The Source” is not going down without a fight.

In an era where the internet slowly begins to overtake the magazine world for reader’s attention, it seems former bankrupted hip-hop magazine “The Source” is not going down without a fight.

Described as the hip-hop bible, the magazine is set to re-launch this month with its 20th anniversary addition. The new issue will feature four different cover stars who had a major impact on the hip-hop world over the last two decades. LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube and Nas all grace the new magazine which was bought by media and entertainment lawyer Londell McMillan and investment banker Jeffery Scott.

McMillan had this to say on their new venture, "I'm on a mission to restore it to the community that gave birth to it and open the door to those that currently enjoy and influence that hip-hop culture," he added. "It's exciting because we believe that we can do it."

Although a major factor, music will not be the only content in the new formatted magazine, The first issue includes a discussion with prominent professors Cornel West and Michael Eric Dyson, which will be led by Public Enemy’s Chuck D.

"We're just going to expand on what The Source has always done well," said McMillan, adding that music will be "a core focus but not 80% of the book."

The Source hits all good newsstands next week.
