A Brief Introduction to...Siphon

**He is…** Dublin based techno DJ/producer and co-founder of FVF records. Holds a bi-monthly residency at Pogo and is quite good at organising parties! Lives in Meath with his cat Snoopy and likes quiet nights in and walks in the park. (I might have made some of that up) **In his own words…** **What's been going on for Siphon this year?** 2008 has been a really busy year so far. I've been working hard with the rest of the team in FVF Records to try and get the best music we can onto the label. We've signed a couple of bright new producers and things are looking really positive. Aside from that I've been working on my own EP for FVF's fourth release which comes out in September, Miss Fitz is remixing one of my tracks and that has been a huge boost for me. **If you were writing your own review what would you say about yourself?** I honestly have no idea. I try not to think about stuff like that, I find people who are constantly looking to see what others are saying out them generally under-perform. I don't have the luxury of being able to relax to that extent, a DJ in my position is judged solely on his or her last set so I try to make each one count. **Tell us a bit about your best gig to date and why was it the best?** The last time I played FVF's residency at the POD was particularly cool. A lot of people were at Oxegen that weekend and I had a feeling it was going to be a washout, but by the time I got on the decks the place was full to the brim and the crowd were really up for it. As the first mix went through I decided to try and lift the place as much as I could and the crowd really responded well to it. I got an approving nod from the security guys as I was going out the door, which was pretty cool! **If you could get any three musicians/producers in the studio with you, who would they be and why?** Ray Sawyer from Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, Nick McCabe from The Verve and Alan Wilson from Canned Heat. I love the uniqueness of all three bands, with these guys being my personal picks from each of their respected groups. **What piece of new fangled technology has really made a difference to your job in the last few years?** I spend nearly all of my time working with Ableton. It's been around for a while and it's my favourite production suite. Nearly everyone I know who is producing either uses Ableton or Logic. For me, Ableton is the best way to get my tracks down . **What can we look forward to from Siphon at the Electric Picnic?!** I play techno music. I do my level best to find tracks that I think will make people dance and I try to mix them in a way that achieves that. I'll be coming out with all guns blazing; it's an honour for me to be playing and I want that to come across in my set. **What are you really looking forward to about EP?** Getting some time with my friends, catching some cool acts and playing a great set. **Not many people know that I…**support Birmingham City FC (for my sins) **Siphon's joke of the day is…**difficult one…. Ireland's licensing laws?! **Siphon's word of the day is…**Integer **Siphon's idea of a good night out is…**generally followed with a day on the sofa.

In his own words…

What's been going on for Siphon this year?

2008 has been a really busy year so far. I've been working hard with the rest of the team in FVF Records to try and get the best music we can onto the label. We've signed a couple of bright new producers and things are looking really positive. If you were writing your own review what would you say about yourself?

I honestly have no idea. I try not to think about stuff like that, I find people who are constantly looking to see what others are saying out them generally under-perform. I don't have the luxury of being able to relax to that extent, a DJ in my position is judged solely on his or her last set so I try to make each one count.
