All change at Radio 1

All change at Radio 1

Programming changes at the BBC have been met with reactions this week as veteran presenter Dave Pearce and trance star Eddie Halliwell were shown the door.

Pearce reacted to the news with this official statement: "It's been an incredible 13 years at Radio 1… it's time to move on but I have some exciting new radio projects to come,"

Halliwell on the other hand gave a more ambivalent response in two press releases, one from Radio 1 and one from his own publicist.

In the BBC release he claimed "With these new changes, I have decided to take this opportunity to move on" but in his own press release he was a little more vocal. "I have decided to finish my Radio 1 weekly commitment to concentrate 100% on my number 1 priority, DJing," he clarified. "As my show grew, Radio 1's demands did also. Broadcasting from London and additional pressures have made it increasingly difficult to maintain a weekly commitment, leaving me with no other option but to finish the show. I've had a fantastic time working with everyone at Radio 1, but it has, and will always be secondary to my sole number 1 passion, DJing," said Eddie.

Good news though for both Judge Jules and Kissy Sellout both of whom were given better slots. Jules in particular seemed to be delighted with the news "Just to confirm, I've moved from 1-3am Friday nights to 11-1am which is an improved slot," he said. "I'm naturally very happy with, as it's totally in tandem with my musical style."
