I'll moonwalk all over your ass Eddie Murphy

Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' is the biggest selling - and many might say best - album ever released. Produced by the legendary Quincy Jones, the album captured two talents at the peak of their powers and created a sonic masterpiece that - in the world of pop at least - has never been matched since , and most likely never will. Classic tracks like 'Wanna Be Startin Something' , 'Billie Jean', 'Beat It' , 'P.Y.T.' , and of course the title track 'Thriller' featured on the album , but its not without its turds either. The Paul McCartney duet 'The Girl Is Mine' might raise a few sniggers today for various reasons. Released in November 1982, 'Thriller' changed the world of pop music forever. It spent a whole year in the Billboard top 10 (82 consecutive weeks) and sold over 100 million copies and still sells well today. Like all great artists, the King of Pop understood the power of making a strong visual connection and the ground breaking 14 minute video to the title track (linked below), is without doubt the most iconic music video of all time, and at the time was revolutionary. The 'Billie Jean' video was similarily iconic and was also the first music video by a black artist to feature on MTV, previously a racist music TV station that refused to play videos by black artists. How times have changed...(MTV at Lake of Stars anyone ?) So to the present, and the re-release - whats in it ? First of all it comes with the original album, obviously, and if you don't have it, get it . It also comes with remix package featuring Kanye West, Will.I.Am, Akon, Fergie and others. The less said the better . It also comes with a bonus DVD featuring the 'Billie Jean' , 'Thriller' and 'Beat It' videos and this is where the magic is , capturing the genius of MJ's talent all in one - singer, dancer, choreographer, visual artist and performer. It wasn't all about the music with Michael Jackson, it was about everything. Anyone still have their glove ? Michael Jackons 'Thriller - 25th Anniversary Edition' is out now on EPIC. Video : Thriller (full 13 mins) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtyJbIOZjS8 (embedded link disabled by user)

A classic alright. PYT is da shizz!

  • Matthew @ 21 Feb 2008 10:59

Its so classic, that I don't think I even skip the Paul McCartney track. Well, not that often anyway.

' that beatles back catalogue is mine ' as MJ might say. or ' the boy is mine' . as brandy might say.

  • Eoin @ 21 Feb 2008 13:28

Does he still own the Beatles catalogue?? Would have thought he'd have flogged that by now.

Shame he's resorted to the horrible reworkings. THe original is just pure perfection, although I still prefer Off The Wall personally.

Sad reflection on current pop music really. Those 'artists' were probably chosen to bring in the cash as the biggest sellers in pop today, just as MJ was then - can't see anyone listening to an Akon album in 25 years though. Surprised Justin isn't on there, maybe they couldn't get him.

  • Tayor @ 21 Feb 2008 13:53

off the wall is a great album too for sure. Get On The Floor is probably my favourite MJ tune thats slightly less well known

  • Eoin @ 21 Feb 2008 13:55

Yeah, would have thought Justin would be a shoe-in for a collaboration. Pity cos he's one of the few pop artists today who would have done something decent with an old MJ song.

In between the genius, there is a few duds on that album that have been (obviously) over-shadowed. Off the Wall is just as good, and Bad has some rude shiit on it too.

i quite like The Girl Is Mine

    but i'm a lover, not a fighter

  • Paulie08 @ 21 Feb 2008 14:48

doesnt even come close to Off The Wall!

  • Davey_B @ 21 Feb 2008 15:27

This just seems like a bit of a money spinner to earn some cash off the michael jackson of old. He was a legend in his day but aside from all the media critique, he still lost it musically (invicible anyone?) I would however still pay an arm and a leg to see him perform live!
