Ian Curtis Gravestone Stolen.

Former Joy Division front man Ian Curtis’s graveyard has been stolen from a cemetery in Cheshire. Curtis was 23 when he hung himself in his home in May 1980.

Former Joy Division front man Ian Curtis’s graveyard has been stolen from a cemetery in Cheshire. Curtis was 23 when he hung himself in his home in May 1980.

Police say the stone which had the inscription “Love Will Tear Us Apart” was taken between sometime on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

A police spokesman said: "There is no CCTV in the area and there are no apparent leads as to who is responsible for the theft. This is a very unusual theft and I am confident that someone locally will have knowledge about who is responsible or where the memorial stone is at present."

The authorities are asking for anybody with information to come forward.

    Thats terrible- wonder will someone try and sell it or just keep it.
    A gravestone in you're livingroom- that def wouldnt be for me

    anyone ever hear the conclusion of what happened when all those old wax museum dummies that were stolen?i was expecting to arrive at a house party and the tellitubbies would be there.but yeah grave robbing is pretty nasty
