A Brief Introduction to… Trus’ Me

Alrighty folks. Welcome to the very first “brief introduction to…” which this week is all about new(ish) kid on the musical block - Trus' Me. Every week, between now and The Picnic, we’ll be giving you the lowdown on the acts you might not have heard of yet, but will definitely be hearing more of in the future. Each artist gets the same set of questions and the opportunity to introduce themselves in their own words. Some, you will notice in the coming weeks, have used more words than others. Some were happy to talk and some would only talk for cake. So then, let’s get started shall we?

He is…. DJ/Producer from Manchestah. Vaulted on to the scene in the last year and a half with a stunning debut album - Working Nights - that has been pounced on by the likes of Gilles Petersen, Jazzanova, Benji B and Michael Rutten. The words “modern day classic” are already being bandied about.

His music is… Soulful, funky, deep, a contemporary take on old skool 70s sounds, extremely danceable.

Here’s what he had to say…

BT: What’s been going on for Trus’ Me this year?

TM: Wow! Quite a bit considering we're only half way through the year. My debut LP "Working Nights" dropped, it’s on Fat City/Prime Numbers. I’m really proud of it; it’s done really well for me and is still going strong. The Launch of "Prime Numbers" my own imprint that has two great 12s out already and some really good stuff lined up….with mix cds and LPs by Linkwood yet to come in 2008, it looks to get better yet. Obviously playing all over the world has come from success with my own production and the label. Through this I’ve been able to push new artists on the PN roster and gain a following as a DJ too.

BT: If you were writing your own review what would you say about yourself?

TM: Driven, passionate, stickler for seeing it done right and most of all a soul music lover!

BT: Tell us a bit about your first ever gig!

TM: Well that would be going back a bit - but the first gig after the success of "Working Nights" that's a good ‘en. Imagine a pre medieval cave under the bridges of Edinburgh train station lit only by candles with a 20k rig and you are slap bang in the middle of the first gig. Amazing residents - the "Firecracker" boys – let’s just say the party went on till the early morn, if gave me a huge thirst for more.

BT: If you could get any three musicians/producers in the studio with you, who would they be and why?

TM: I had Amp Fiddler in my studio for the second LP "In The Black", due out at the end of 2008. Amp is in my top 3 - pure talent pours out of him, it’s really inspiring. Next, it has to be Patrick Adams, just would be crazy to pick up a few tricks. Finally, Marvin Gaye, ha ha you didn't say alive! Yeah, that has to be the ultimate, just to see how his mind ticks when constructing a piece of music.

BT: What piece of new-fangled technology has really made a difference to your job in the last few years?

TM: Pure and simple "Live" the package is just so creative - it works so well with all my outboard gear and just helps you say what you wanna say in your music. I just couldn't make music with out it right now.

BT: What can we look forward to from Trus’ Me at the Electric Picnic?

TM: It's gonna be a party for sure, building on the energy of each piece of music, from all spectrums of soul music that you just can't help but get down to.

BT: What (if anything), have you heard about the good old Irish crowd?

TM: I played back in February and have to say it was one of the most enjoyable parties to date. The Irish crowd just wants to enjoy the music and most of all dance. When I was invited to the EP there was no hesitation.

BT: Not many people know that I… Produce Hip Hop too.

BT: Trus’ Me’s joke of the day is…A horse walks into a bar…. the bartender says…”What’s with the long face?” Lame I know!

BT: Trus Me’s word of the day is…Recalcitrant, look that one up!

BT: Trus Me’s idea of a good night out is…Fillet Steak, medium with pepper sauce and a bottle of Shiraz. Tickets to Mighty Boosh Live followed by a trip to the Roadhouse, Manchester, to see me my favorite DJ's at Eyesdown arrrhhhhhhhh - all with someone special of course.

And there you have it! You can check out his toons here
