Hacienda Club Doors Become Museum Piece
The entrance doors of one of the worlds most influential clubs “The Hacienda” have become a museum piece for the Museum of Science And Industry.
The entrance doors of one of the worlds most influential clubs “The Hacienda” have become a museum piece for the Museum of Science And Industry.
The Manchester club was run by New Order label “Factory Records” and the doors have been added to the museums collection as part of their 25th birthday.
The collections manager for the museum, Pauline Webb, had this to say, “"The last 25 years have seen huge changes in Manchester's science and industry, as the city and region moves away from the core products of manufacturing and engineering, and into the service sector and creative industries.
The addition of the doors represents Manchester's move "through the final demise of the textiles and engineering industries and rise of the Madchester music scene in the 1990s".
The Hacienda opened in 1982 and stayed open till 97. It was one of the pioneering venues for the early acid house and rave scene. The site where the club formally resided is now home to the Hacienda Apartments.
The doors are on show at the museum now.
