iTunes can buy me love

The Beatles are about to bite the bullet and go digital. Paul McCartney hinted as much in an interview with Billboard late last year and the Daily Telegraph reports that a deal is close to being completed with iTunes. Apparently only minor details need to be sorted between the band's estate, EMI and the online digital media retailer. The deal is expected to net the estate in the region of e300m. The Beatles are one of the last big acts in music to make their back catalogue available digitally, and the deal will be a major coup for iTunes and Apple. Judging by the size of the deal and Apple's innate desire for domination of the digital media marketplace, one assumes the catalogue will only be available on iTunes. Is this a good thing one wonders ? We'll wager Heather ain't complaining....
