Mnml vs Muslims

Great Stuff Recordings are coming under pressure from Muslim fundamentalist to withdraw Butch's new album Papillon.

"Even anonymous threats from so-called Islamic fundamentalists because of alleged mocking of Muslim melodies during the tracks Soultan, Amelie and Last Tango could not stop our original plan", Rainer Weichhold, label manager and A&R at Great Stuff, said. "That some of the tone patterns sound familiar to traditional muezzin proclamations, is not disrespectfully intended. With creating these patterns the artists wanted to express his love for his ancestry."

Butch is a German/Turkish minimal producer who's a regular at Tresor. Ricardo Villalobos is also a big fan.

"These melodies are a big part of my families history," he said, "I don't get all the tumult around these tracks. These aren’t the Satanic Verses on techno beats."

In another story, less than two weeks ago Sony withdrew a video game due to concerns that it might offend Muslims. Copies of LittleBigPlanet were recalled from shops worldwide after it emerged that a background music track contained two phrases from the Koran.

The music came from Grammy award-winning artist Toumani Diabate from Mali and had been available through online music stores for months beforehand.

A Sony spokesperson said, "We decided to do a global recall to ensure that there was no possible way anyone may be offended by the music in the game."

Its so bizarre the amount of easily offended folks that religion produces. Compare that with the existence of Father Ted!

As a muslim, there is nothing in the Butch tracks that is against Islam that is not in tons of Arabic music. Take this story as lies, propaganda, hate against Islam. Who is the author?

i'm not sure who the author is as the story was published over one year ago, before my tenure. it seems to be a re-write of a news story that appeared elsewhere, although i am unable to find the source.

the quotes attributed to great stuff label and the recording artist appear genuine, but there is nothing in the story to back-up any claims about alleged threats made to the artist. for that reason alone, it should not have been published. i will remove this story.
