Hendrix Strat Sells for $575,000

The first Fender Stratocaster set on fire on stage by Jimi Hendrix has been sold at an auction for $575,000.

The first Fender Stratocaster set on fire on stage by Jimi Hendrix has been sold at an auction for $575,000.

Unbelievably, auctioneers were disappointed at the price it went for and expected it to fetch more. Ted Owen of auctioneers The Fame Bureau had this to say on the sale, "We can only find evidence of Hendrix definitively burning two guitars. And because this piece is a one-off original, I feel that this is the most important Hendrix guitar ever to be offered for sale - even eclipsing the Woodstock Stratocaster which eventually sold for $1.8 million."

The guitar was bought by American collector Daniel Boucher who hopes by playing it some of Hendrix magic will rub off on him.

Some of the other items in the auction included an Elvis Presley guitar which sold for $52,000, Jim Morrison’s last notebook which fetched $115,000 and The Beatles first contact which received over $426, 478.
