Who says vinyl is dead? Amazon.com has announced that it has launched a new vinyl section with over 250,000 titles. It seems its not only Djs and audio nerds who are clinging onto the wax, as vinyl sales have increased more that 80% in the last two years.
Some mainstream acts are also jumping back on the L.P bandwagon and releasing their album in vinyl format. U2, Coldplay and Kings of Leon have all released vinyl additions of their recent albums and heavy metal titans Metallica saw their “Death Magnetic” album sell so quickly from Amazon that there is now a hefty waiting list for it.
Mike Allen, who is a former vice president of EMI says, "There's a reaction against the commoditization of music that downloading represents- With vinyl there's something that has innate value -- a physical object.”
With songs disappearing as quickly as they appear online it seems the idea of being able to sit down, physically touch the music, look at the artwork and store an album is a tradition that still hasn’t died just yet.

Should have read that properly before i posted it. :D
that vinyl sales have increased 80% in the last 2 years is complete horseshizzer. record industry are twisting stats to come up with that load of mumbo jumbo. what could be cool here though is if amazon start selling 2nd hand vinyl ala like they do with books. that could be cool and really open up the amount of old hard to get records you could buy
I was listening to a small bag of records I had sitting about for years the other day and almost everyone of them have degraded in sound and quality to the point of being unusable, definitly so if you were a DJ at least. They weren't looked after the best, my bother had been holding on to them and had put them through their paces, but all they are is just big lumps of bulky plastic now, the music is lost. I was listening to them and looking at the state they were in and it just comfirmed to me how useless vinyl is now. The price tag on them too was shocking. I think the whole vinyl fetish thing is distracting and pointless, or to but it more blundly, it's a load of bullsh*t.
sure 47% of all facts are made up.. :D

as much as i agree with people appreciating having a tangible object in their hands to appreciate, i can't help but feel, that with these bigger bands, it's just an effort to make more money. vinyl costs mega bucks these days.
