Martyn's Great Lengths
Bass innovator finishes debut album.
Dutch producer Martyn is preparing to release his debut album, 'Great Lengths', on his 3024 label in the coming weeks. The eagerly-anticipated LP will feature 14 tracks on CD, and a selection of seven across a triple vinyl pack, which also comes with a free poster of the distinctive cover art by Erosie. The genre-crossing producer first made his name making drum and bass, but is now at the forefront of the dubstep/techno scene, thanks to a string of high-profile releases and remixes.
Of his genre-crossing adventures, Martyn says: "I grew up in Eindhoven, and lived in Rotterdam for five years, both cities are drum and bass and techno strongholds in Holland, so I am quite sure this had an influence on me. Especially Eindhoven, which back in the day had many ties with Detroit and Chicago thanks to labels like Djax and Eevolute. So in the early/mid-90s, I saw many of those people play and bought their records. I think what makes music interesting is when an artist incorporates his/her influences and translates it into a unique sounding style. Although it may sound a tad arrogant, I like to think of my music as 'Martyn music'. I try to think of it not as dubstep or techno, or house or drum and bass, it's not about genres, it's about music."
