Omar S Fabric Mix

Detroit producer makes major league debut.

Omar S has mixed the latest in the Fabric series of compilations.

The FXHE boss decided to include all his own material, stating: "Over the last year I haven’t really been feeling anybody’s music. I’d rather do a mix for Fabric that’s all my own shit, because there are still a lot of people out there that don’t know about FXHE records or Omar-S or Oasis.

I did a few different versions, remixes, of a few of the tracks on the CD, and there are about four tracks on there that haven’t been released yet."

The album is released on March 16.

Would love to see this guy in Dublin ... there isn't many out there to cross off my list but he definitely would be near the top of it !!!

  • shinya @ 16 Jan 2009 0:25

He supporsed to play in LOOP @ Tokyo while ago and canceled at last minutes, becasue he wasn't offered business class flight etc. Bit of w@nker if its true.

Needless to say, amazing, original and great producer...... Hope the story above is not exactly what really happended .

  • conor_l @ 16 Jan 2009 0:51

@ Shinya, it was hardly last minute if they were only booking the flights!
I've a bad feeling i'm working the weekend he's playing TP. Love to see him, he's one of the best producers in the world at the moment.

  • shinya @ 16 Jan 2009 14:36

yeah, he checked his air tix day he flew, and said " Im not gonna fly with economy seat "- if I believe the
story I heard from organizer of the night. Which ever is, some not so nice story behind this for sure anyway

  • conor_l @ 16 Jan 2009 14:45

Tis Quentin in that photo alright

  • AlanSmith @ 16 Jan 2009 15:18

I'd say "The Maker" is my favourite of his tracks, excellent DJ as well, theres a good interview with here:

    http://infinitestatemachine.com/2007/08/06/a-conversation-with-omar-s/

A self confessed wind up merchant and chalenges Kerri Chandler to a 4 track ep! Make up your own mind on him.

  • brokenaudiomovement @ 17 Jan 2009 12:41

Saw him in london couple of years ago in an underground basement type joint. Low ceilings, black walls, one strobe light, dank, dirty, weed infested air...one of the best nights of my life. We've got all of his records (including a very rare promo) but hearing them on a proper system is just another dimension.
And he's one of the soundest, most straight up blokes you'll meet..

Dyin to hear the different versions of those tracks and also the unreleased ones. Do fabric release these thing on triple vinyl or anything like that??

  • Tayor @ 17 Jan 2009 16:06

it'll be cd only id imagine

  • Tayor @ 17 Jan 2009 20:18

it'll be interesting to see if this idea works. i dont think Villalobos cd worked , though fair play to him he was there first . I was talking to Johnnie Optimo about mix cds at xmas and he made the point , whats the point these days ? with podcasts, recorded mixes and the sheer volume of them its really hard to stand out , so i guess thats what Villalobos and Omar S are at least trying to do , do something different . Its all about producers these days anyway

  • brokenaudiomovement @ 18 Jan 2009 13:18

Personally i think it's a brilliant idea. Not in a spiritual or creative way, just the way that he's gonna make a pile of money from the licensing of these tracks. Most of the time when people "sell out" you would consider that to mean "compromising their artform in order for commercial success ergo bigger bank balance". The beautifull thing here is that he's got the opportunity to make nice cash money without compromising his art in any way.
Much like Theo's addidas advert. People were slating it because they were trying to say "he's gone mainstream" or some other nonsense but what i believe is that "going mainstream" or "selling out" or whatever you want to call it is only so if you're compromising your art in the process. But thhe fact was, theo did not come up with any bullshit to please addidas, he did his thing, and in a way which NOBODY elso could no less.

  • AlanSmith @ 18 Jan 2009 20:05

Wouldnt be surprised if Todd Terry has done it before, I remember his top 10's in magazines would be mostly all his own productions which I always found a bit egotistical. Should be great in Twisted Pepper particularly downstairs, brought me back a few years the last time I was down there, nice and dark/smokey with the 2 lasers up the front meandering slowly around the floor, really nice feel and great sound.

  • Tom_B @ 18 Jan 2009 20:35

yeah i hope its downstairs too

  • interstellar_fugitive @ 21 Jan 2009 9:03

Listen to the people, Omar for downstairs!

  • Tayor @ 21 Jan 2009 9:57

all good ! just so yis know , from all the feedback we've gotten it seems to work like this... djs/producers prefer downstairs , punters prefer upstairs. not a total rule, but thats just what we've found so far

    still, he's playing downstairs ;)

  • Tom_B @ 21 Jan 2009 10:29

    Nice one Uncle Trev!!

  • Sledgehammer255 @ 4 Feb 2009 4:09

Its hardly surprising djs/producers prefer downstairs. Its the sort of mecca they make music for..:) Bullion sound will work well upstairs on valentines

  • autonhate @ 4 Mar 2009 18:33

without a doubt the best artist from the d at the mo!!! when an artist is a good as him then why not use all your own production on a mix. it may seem a little self indulgent to some but then its just the sort of thing you would expect from omar-s.
