"21st Century galactic artists" Tokyo Black Star - aka DJ Alex and engineer Isao Kumano - are preparing to release their debut album, 'Black Ships', on Dixon's Innervisions label. The pair describe the record - a collection of previous singles and new pieces - as "a non-fiction travel diary, and at the same time a supreme fiction of travelling through the world of imagination ... just in time to transport you beyond our fragile planet." Advance listens suggest a record that's curiously close to that description, taking influence from Detroit, deep house and hi-tech funk, aided by spoken word contributions from poet Rich Medina. The album is released on March 30.
