Delta Funktionen - Electromagnetic Radiation Part 2 [Ann Aimee]

Dub techno is a sub-genre that has had a somewhat strange existence over the last 15 years or so. The sound developed and subsequently mastered by the Basic Channel duo in the 90s, their records continue to cast a shadow over nearly every other addition to the genre. And with this third release from Delta Funktionen, the same applies. In a case of bad running order, this release starts with it's weakest, most derivitive cut. 'Deflection' slowly develops a pleasant, shuffling percussive edge but one is just reminded too much of Maurizio's superior M Series. The three remaining tracks continue in a similar manner rhythmically, but melodically focus on revealing more attractive, spaced out inflections, always gently floating in the background behind the deep bass and crisp percussion. The closing 'Pretermission' is the most succesful. A dank, smokey atmosphere smothers the track, with a superb, eerie minor-key refrain appearing halfway, resulting in the release closing on a much more satisying note than which it started on.
Playing at the Twisted Pepper on the 20th March.
Basic Channel played in Dublin in 2005.
No need for the homophobia imo. Pretty poor show, you queer.

Great release! I wouldn't specify this as typical dub-techno, things are more on the atmospherical side I guess...
