Not if you were the last club on earth: Razzmatazz, Barcelona

As anyone who has made the pilgrimage to sunny Barcelona in June knows, Razzmatazz is not the place to go if you like your clubs small, dark and intimate.

It’s big. Very big. Many a novice raver will have spent a few hours wandering around looking for their mates, confused by the seemingly identical smoking areas.

How do you know you’re at the right club? The invariably large queue snaking round the block in the industrial area of Poble Nou, that’s how. Now shunned by the city’s more selective/jaded ravers, there’s plenty of fun to be had across the various rooms: the cavernous Razz Club, LoLiTa, Pop Bar, Rex Room and The Loft, where we spent most of our time dancing to Audion, Berliners Monosurround and the evergreen Vitalic.

The venue is quite flexible, often opening mid-week for smaller parties or live acts, ramping up at the weekend to the full five-room-knees-up covering all the usual bases, but always with a pleasing dose of Barcelona hipster-approved ‘pop’.

Talent: It’s a big and diverse venue, so the crowd can vary most nights. On this particular occasion, the crowd was mainly European, dressed in something neon and exceptionally drunk or mangled.

Sounds: The Loft soundsystem is ideal: big warm and banging, though it loses some of its impact at the rear of the room. Impressive visuals and lighting too, and the huge subs at the foot of the stage reward anyone who elbows their way to the front.

Goodies: On this Sonar Saturday night, all manner of delights were available. Security was strict on this and on several occasions people were thrown out for both dealing and dabbing.

Ice Breaker: Need any pills?

Jawbreaker: No, soy la seguridad!

even though this place is absolutely huge , im guessing somewhere between 3-5,000 surely , i really love it. Its dark and dirty, the staff are pretty cool and its the kinda place you could literally lose yourself in for hours across all the rooms. I dont normally like big clubs but there's something special about this place for me . being in Barcelona probably helps !

Loved it the night I was there, which was the night mentioned above, although it was Wed of Sonar week not Sat. Audion was quality.
