Thanks to a real fan of the old-school here in Paris, I got my hands on something special this month – an old Armando mixtape that I feared had been lost for a while.
It’s a recording of an appearance by the Chicago legend on Rave Up, a show I used to be a regular guest on which was broadcast on the Radio FG station. I realised around a year ago that the tape had gone missing, which I was quite unhappy about. But thanks to Serge, the full mix will be available on my website real soon – in the meantime, here’s one half of this excellent mix.
Armando’s mix will be the first in a new series I’m starting on my site, with the help of French legend, DJ Oliver Le Castor. Olivier released music on the likes of See Saw Recordings back in the day.
The aim of this project is to present mixtapes and recordings from the likes of Armando and other great names, to highlight forgotten or hard to find jams and most of all to share memories about the early days of real underground house in Paris.
On the business front, things are busy. The big news is that my label, Deeply Rooted House, is being taken “on board” by Carl Craig’s Planet E Inc. So from now on, DRH will be exclusively available on vinyl through Planet E. In the meantime, Blackjoy’s ‘Monilola’ is getting nice support as a Beatport exlusive.
Alongside my business partner Jerome Barbre, I’ve just finished creating some custom equipment for a proper New York house legend. I can’t say too much more about it at the moment, but we will have some news about this, and some other brand new E&S DJ products real soon.

Finally, DJing at the Djoon Club in Paris with Levon Vincent was amazing – not only as he’s a generous person, but his set was absolutely awesome. He played some stuff of his own, including the new Deconstruct 03, and Novel Sound 04, which is destined to be a classic. He also played some tracks by NY house act Bluejean which made my week.
